12 Hours in Singapore

June 1, 2014 ---- Our flight to Bangkok had a connection in Singapore, and we had a 12-hour lay-over. We decided that it was long enough to visit a friend and do a city tour, and neither of us needed a visa to enter the country, so the plan was set.

Singapore is an amazingly diverse country! The island is smaller than Taiwan, but the Singaporeans consist of many races: Chinese Asians, Indians, Arabs, Malays, and a lot of Westerners. We noticed that each ethnic group uses their mother-tongue in their conversation, but once there is communication with other ethnic groups, they all speak English.

Also, Singapore is well-known for being super clean, and I confirm that is true. Even though the country is highly developed, the cultural heritage is still preserved. Nathan and I visited all the sights on foot. We started by taking a metro from the airport to Chinatown, then walked to Arab Street, and ended in Little India where we had lunch with our friend.

In short, beautiful city, diverse population, convenient transportation, great food, ...worth a visit!
